Thriving 30, Volume 09: What happens when you visit Venezia, Italy?
Venice, wow. I knew I’d like you, but I didn’t realize the history and architecture of your making.
Some things I didn’t realize (a mixture of good and bad):
1) Mosquitos. So far in Venezia I’ve gotten over fives bites all over my body. I understand this city is on water, but it the body of water is not a lake or has rainforest climates. There are actually a lot of bugs, bugs that I haven’t seen before.
2) No new construction and Capitalism . All the buildings and even in residential areas of Venezia are from its original time. You don’t see any new buildings condos, or homes being built. If there are issues with your home, they’ll fix it, there’s no remodeling. I guess they follow the concept if it is not broken, don’t fix it! Therfore everything is really outdated and old. If you are high maintenance, I wouldn’t recommend going here. Venezia thrives only one business, tourism. It is the third city if Italy that attracts the most tourism. That what’s makes their food and recreational activities really pricey. But most of the businesses are mom n pop.
3) Venezia is not a floating city, it is a man made city that is drowning. The waters you see all over Venezia isn’t a lake or a river. That is the ocean flowing through. Climte change is real and se levels are rising, You can see the city slowing drowning in most places, since the waters are rising. They’ve build some walls to stop, but those stoppers are just temporary. Soon enough this city might not exist. The water is not still, it’s a full on flowing, high currents. You do not want to fall in.
To Eat and Drink:
Don’t be fooled by all the Pizza! I mean if you want a something quick and cheap. You will think, you are hungry, oh this is great, pizza was baked in a brick oven, and slices are thin. Napolis will have better pizza! Trust me! Do try the squid ink pasta. Their seafood is super fresh. Your diet of liquids should be spritz and cappuccinos. Spritz is a sparking bubbly drink with alcohol. It’s a sweet, refreshing, and something that you can drink a lot of without getting too turnt. And the caps…. its just so good. I don’t think I can tell the difference from each shops since they taste fairly the same. But I was so jet-lagged on one of the days, I had maybe 5 cappuccinos.
To do:
Definitely go on the gondola ride, If you do it in a group, it should be less money. I believe it was 80 euros for 30 min. When will you ever go on these gondolas? It is pricey, but I’d say do it!
