Thriving 30, Volume 23: 3 Pizza joints in the Bay Area you need to try!
Let me show you a pizza my heart…
Please… foodies… PSA. Please don’t come after me. Pizza is such a sensitive subject. People can be really opinionated about pizza. Fear? That’s not me. I was going to rap about my favorite pizza spots in the bay cus you know… my history of haikus and odes I’d thought it would made sense. But I haven’t figure the flow yet… You’ll have to wait.
Enough with the banter! Here are the bad boys…
Rotten City Pizza is located in Emeryville. These slices are quite generous, however it is so tasty you can’t eat just one. You need 2! I would go for the classic pep, and then you must get the Porchetta with the white sauce. It is so damn good. I would say it is definitely the best pizza in the bay area. The slices are NY style, which means it is thin, where you can grab and fold then vertically. Sauce is evenly spread, edges are crispy, there’s a nice bite. The Porchetta comes with white sauce and chunks of roasted pork. Pizza goes great with beer and an outdoor patio. Perfect now that the weather is nice and the sun is out a little longer.
Cheeseboard is located in North Berkeley. We all know who Cheeseboard. She’s a vegetarian, her dough is made of focaccia bread, she has this nice, thicc basil sauce that goes great on top or as a dipping. There’s definitely never a miss when you pick up a pie. My favorite has to be the 1) Potato 2) Elote + Cilantro 3) Mushroom medley. The OG is in North Berkeley, but little chains and sister restaurants are spread out around the bay area. There’s Arizmendi’s in Oakland and Emeryville. There’s also Sliver that’s in Berkeley, which is similar to Cheeseboard but offer more of a bar scene rather than a family friendly hangout spot. The unique thing about Cheeseboard is that they make one type of vegetarian pizza a day, it is a take it or leave it kind of deal. Most of the time it is a take it!
Golden Boy Pizza is located in San Francisco. I guess I need to give credit to an establishment in San Francisco. Golden Boy has a special place in my heart. I use to come here drunk after my clubbin’ days. Now clubbin’ is not in my vocabulary, I don’t who she is anymore. But Golden Boy Pizza’s are in little squares that are perfect. 2 might be a lot, I think after 2 you might hate yourself just a little since the bread is also in focaccia and fills you up. I think the best is the 1) Clams, which sells out so fast on nights on the weekends. It is filled with baby clams, garlic, and mozz cheese. 2) The Veggie, the veggie pizza has chunks of tomatoes and artichoke hearts and slathered with pesto dressing that is amazing. I’ve also had this sober, and not drunk, and not hungover. It is still good. That’s when you know. She is a keeper, without the beer googles.
