Perks of a Yelp Elite

Happy Hour and Free Booze
Although it makes me sound like an alcoholic, everyone loves free alcohol. I can’t remember an event that didn’t serve alcohol. From the vineyards of Napa to the beer on tap, Yelp spoils their elites with edible ethanol. My first event was a Spa Event for the ladies. We were pampered with massages and mini-manicures. Small bites include artisan cheeses and red wine. My recent event was a Sausage and Beer Fest, we had the opportunity to try different types of homemade sausages and salute to ice cold beers. What can I say… they want us to get our drink on!

Food
Although Yelp is great for many things, food is the one thing that has the most searches. We often go on Yelp to pick a restaurant for a romantic first date or a cheap bite when we are traveling. New businesses often get some type of hidden perks when they have good reviews. Yelp reaches out to these new businesses by hosting a tasting event. Yelp Elites get to have dinner, snack, and enjoy small bites at these venues. In return it would nice for us to write them an honest review of their business. Although it is not required for us write a review to attend the Yelp Event, but it is Elite way of giving feedback to new businesses.

Networking
Events are a great way to meet people that share the same hobby. Most attendees are from the ages of 21-30. If you are a recent graduate, it is a great way to meet people that may introduce you to opportunities that may surprise you. I was lucky enough to meet a couple of people that were able to give me tips on my current blog. We were just sharing stories of our writing and what sparked our interest into writing yelp reviews. We then shared our respective blogs. He gave me great tips on writing, style and even Dreamweaver techniques! He has been blogging for a really long time where his prose were published on Huffington, Thought Catalog, and many more. This shows that you never know who you’ll meet!

Friends
Most events Yelp allows you to bring a (+1). You are allowed to bring an SO or a friend so that you won’t feel lonely. I try to bring a different friend every time I attend these events so that all of my friends get to experience this kind of culture. At the Annual Yelp Ball, my friend and I dressed up in cocktail dresses and enjoyed different vendors of food. Going to these events, you are bound to bump into people that have attended the previous events. At a yoga event I made a friend that happens to work for the same company as my brother, so it is definitely small world. We just need to open to new platonic relationships. Sometimes Yelpers are too confident and use Yelp as way of dating which can get a little awkward at times.

Being apart of a great community
Yelp is a wonderful community.  I am so thankful to be apart of a giving and fun group of young adults. I love being a foodie and it is great meeting people that have the same hobby. I do have a favorite Yelper, Cherylynn N. As cheesy as it may sound, I would love to meet her one-day because her reviews are always on point and humor is awesome.

Are you a Yelp Elite yet? Get on it so we can sip on some cocktails!
